View Funeral WebcastSarah Miller Flanigan, 94, longtime resident of Eighth Avenue, died Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. W. Garie Taylor and Rev. James C. Norton officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Fond memories and condolences for the family may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 9, 1921 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. Miller and Mary White Miller. On August 14, 1948 she married Thomas Neeley "T. N." Flanigan, who preceded her in death September 10, 1990. The 1938 graduate of College Grove High School attended one year at Nashville Business College. She was employed at the Register's Office at the Franklin Courthouse and later worked several years at Dortch Stove Works in Franklin. She and Mr. Flanigan made their home in Columbia, where she was a teacher's aid at Highland Park Elementary School and worked in the daycare at Riverside United Methodist Church. Mrs. Flanigan loved caring for her family, assisting with Girl Scouts and serving as Den Mother for Cub Scouts. An excellent cook, she was known for her rolls and fried peach pies. She enjoyed gardening and canning. A member of Riverside United Methodist Church, she had been active in the UMW and The Love Boat Seniors. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann (Lawrence) Horner of Columbia; sons, Tom (Gerri) Flanigan and Fred Flanigan, both of Columbia; grandchildren, John Park Horner of Murfreesboro, Mary Miller Horner and Sarah Cecilia Flanigan, both of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Culberson, Jane Covington, and Mary Tom Cromer. Active pallbearers will be John Park Horner, Ed Cromer, Jimmy Cromer, Miller Culberson, Bob Ammons, and Jimmy Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Cromer, David Ammons, Erik Covington, and members of The Love Boat Seniors.
