Ms. Sharon Nelson passed way Wednesday, February 16 at her residence after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease at the age of 62. She was preceded in death by her parents Mickie Nelson and sportscaster Lindsey Nelson. Sharon was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and resided in Dallas, Texas and Huntington, New York. During her earlier life she lived and worked at the Crystal Run Village in Middletown, New York. For the last 23 years she has lived and worked under the care of Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In her spare time Sharon enjoyed traveling, rooting for the New York Mets and the Tennessee Vols, watching classic Broadway musicals, playing Uno and spending time with her family. Sharon profoundly touched the lives of those who knew her. Survivors include an aunt Mary Sue Pennington of Columbia, Tennessee; sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Andy Wyszynski of Sautee, Georgia; niece and nephew Natalie and Patrick Turk of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; nieces Lindsey and Whitney Wyszynski of Sautee, Georgia; and many wonderful friends from the Orange Grove community. Visitation will be from 10 am - noon on Monday, February 21, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday with Rev. Bob Lewis officiating. Graveside services will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
