View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Shirley Brooks McDonald Golden, 76, a resident of Nashville, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Peter van Eys officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late William Thomas McDonald and Louise Brooks McDonald. On October 2, 1953, she married William Lee "Bill" Golden who preceded her in death on August 12, 2003. She was a retired secretary for the U. S. Government Military Personnel Entrance Office. Mrs. Golden was a member of Crievewood United Methodist Church. Affectionately known as "Nanny", she was a precious, loving, and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Lee & Rita Davis Golden of Franklin; grandchildren, Matthew William Golden of Huntsville, Alabama; Andrew Davis Golden of Franklin; sister, Martha Dean McDonald Gilliam of Columbia; brothers, William Thomas "Tommy" McDonald, II of Dickson; Robert "Bobby" (Patti) McDonald of Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Margaret "Clyde" Hamm and Liz Powell. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff at Aspen Arbor, Alive Hospice, and her cousin, Betty Lynn Brooks. Serving as pallbearers are Matthew Golden, Andrew Golden, Barry Fly, Bill Davis, Eric Davis, and Ricky Davis.
