Stephen Allen Hannah

Stephen Allen Hannah, 79, resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 9:00 AM till time of service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Allen was born August 1, 1947, in Columbia to the late James Marshall Hannah and the late Grace Fite Hannah. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. On April 28, 1972, he married Melba Riley. Allen served as a firefighter for several years before beginning a career with Union Carbide, where he worked until the plant closed. He later worked for Saturn for a year before becoming a school bus driver for Maury County Schools.

Allen loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and was a member of the Dimple of the Universe Camping Club. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and coached Little League baseball for 14 years. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports. Allen was a proud veteran and a 52-year member of American Legion Post 19. He was also a member of Bigbyville Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Melba Riley Hannah, he is survived by three sons, Steve (Ashley) Hannah of Smyrna, Patrick (Kim) Hannah of Estill Springs, and Preston Hannah of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Stacie Hannah, Ella Grace Hannah, Trey Hannah, Carter Hannah, and Morgan Hannah; a brother, Jim (Deana) Hannah of Petersburg; and nieces, Sarah Hannah and Catheran Hannah.

Pallbearers will be Ken Hickman, Gary Allen, Donald Cathey, Gary Riley, Hugh Erwin, and Nolan Riley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School Class at Bigbyville Methodist Church and members, past and present, of the Ayers-Whitney Friendship Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church of Columbia.
