Mrs. Sylvia Elizabeth Tomazykawski Inman, 89, retired nurse and former resident of Columbia Avenue, died Saturday, May 18, 2013 at NHC Oakwood in Lewisburg. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. She met her future husband Jack Kerr Inman while stationed at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1988. Mrs. Inman was a nurse in training and had enlisted the week after Pearl Harbor in answer to a call from the Army for recruits to go into cadet training. In six months she received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant and served until she was separated on disability in 1945. She served as a flight nurse in the Air Evacuation Squadron in the U. S. Army/Air Corps during World War II. She resigned her job and joined Mr. Inman in Japan and went to work at Tokyo Army Hospital. In 1954, they returned to the States and were married at her home in San Francisco. After Mr. Inman's retirement, they returned home to Tennessee and lived at the old Inman home place in the Campbell Station Community. Mrs. Inman later retired as Registered Nurse from Merihill Nursing Home in Lewisburg. Mrs. Inman loved animals and children and after retirement from nursing, she spent many years babysitting in her home. A member of the Church of Christ, she had attended Highland Church of Christ. She was a 66 year member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. She is survived by one son, Jon Inman of Columbia. Pallbearers will be members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
