T. B. Mencer, 73, retired from the Tennessee Department of Transporation and resident of Culleoka in the Stiversville Community, died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. The Maury County native was the son of the late Sam Mencer and Annie Mae Waller Mencer. A man of many and varied interests, Mr. Mencer absolutely loved animals with a passion, often entertaining children with pony rides and petting zoos. He loved talking with friends and telling his life stories. On days off from working hard he particularly enjoyed dancing at the Briar Patch in Cornersville, attending auctions, and going to the stock barn in Lewisburg. He also was an avid arrowhead collector, pursuing his search everywhere the dirt was upturned. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Delorese Brady Mencer of Culleoka; daughter, Deborah Mencer of Culleoka; sons, Michael Mencer of Lakeland, Florida, Carl (Pamela) Mencer of Culleoka, and Thomas (Melissa) Mencer of Spring Hill; grandchildren, David Mencer, Kristi Clark, Kayla Mencer, Marlana Dalton, Brittany Beard, Greyson Mencer, Heather Mencer, Sam Mencer, Robert Mencer, and Miley Mencer; a great-grandson and favorite buddy, Jason Ryan Thomas; sisters-in-law, Reba Mencer and Ruth Mencer; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Holbert, Pearl Riggins, and Mai Bell Mencer; and brothers, Robert Mencer, Sam A. Mencer, Jr., and Charles Mencer. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of his life Monday, October 3, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at The Briar Patch, 503 North Main Street Cornersville concluding with a time of sharing stories and remembrances at 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, 2200 Children's Way Nashville, TN 37232.
