Terry Lee Hanvy, 61, resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Tony Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Born December 24, 1964, in Maury County, Tennessee, Terry was the son of the late Herman L. “Pappy” Hanvy, Jr. and the late Shelby Jean “MeMe” Bolton Hanvy. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and worked for many years as an Industrial Electrician Supervisor at Allison Transmission in Lewisburg. Terry was a member of Bigbyville Methodist Church.
Terry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who dearly loved his family. He was an avid University of Tennessee Vols fan and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Terry especially loved his horses, Bo and Angel, and his dogs, Dixie and Bella. Known as a hard worker, he always made sure his family was cared for and provided for. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and dedication to those he loved.
Survivors include his wife and partner, Kim Hanvy; children, Alec Hanvy (Lisa Stewart), Sam (Gracie) Hanvy, Dustin Potts, Austin Moss (Jennifer Indermuehle), and Shana Johnson (Justuss Aiden); grandchildren, Kylee Moss, Kamdyn Russell, Journei Russell, Jr. Russell, Levi Aiden, Ezekial Soto, Bryce Hernandez, Gracelee Moss, Haisley Potts, and Dawson Potts; brother, Kenny Hanvy, sister, Brenda (Steven) McCanless; several nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Donnie Dalton; and sister-in-law, Rhonda West.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman and Ophelia Hanvy, and Charlie and Eunice Bolton.
Pallbearers will be Gene Smith, Roger Jones, Mike Harris, Jimmy Woodall, Alec Hanvy, Sam Hanvy, Ryan McCanless, Dustin Potts, and Austin Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow employees at Allison Transmission in Lewisburg.
