Theron Hood

Mr. Theron Allen Hood, 50, resident of Columbia, died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Brother Murray Thomas Culberson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggest memorials be made to Pet Pals of Maury County, P.O. Box 1623, Columbia, TN 38402. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of Billy Allen Hood and Patricia Fay Pruitt Hood. In his early life he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, until he was injured in a diving accident at the age of 19. Afterwards his interest included music, CB radio operator with the handle name "Blue Jay". He had an outgoing personality and he loved to joke and cut up with family and friends. Survivors include his father and step-mother, Billy Allen and Teresa Jo Hood of Columbia; mother, Patricia Fay Pruitt Hood of Columbia; brother and sister-in-law, Troy Carroll and Rhonda Russell Hood of Columbia, nieces, Kristen Carroll Hood and Shelby Louise Hood both of Lynnville; aunts, Linda Kay Bee, Betty Jane Smith, Joyce (Ted) Houston all of Columbia, Betty (Walker) Huey of Nashville, and Audrey Hood of Santa Fe; an uncle, Gwyn Thurman of Columbia; step-brothers, Mike (Diane) Bone of Columbia, and Todd (Michelle) Bone of Cornersville; special friends Shannon Dungy and her son Luke; several cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Trenton Roy Hood. Active pallbearers will be Mark Tennyson, Todd Fitzgerald, Steven Hood, Charles A. Hood, Jack Fitzgerald, Brandon Russell, and Chase Smith. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Todd and Lisa Fitzgerald for their devoted care, the staff at NHC Columbia Health Care where he had made his residence for several years and the nurses at Maury Regional Medical Center CCU.
