View Funeral WebcastThomas Shelvin Hubbell, 84, farmer and owner-operator of Southport Grocery for many years, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Edward Clayton Murphy and Larry Benderman officiating. Burial will follow in Gibsonville Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the son of the late Smith Hubbell and Gladys Thurman Hubbell. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth "Sis" Hubbell of Columbia; brothers, Milford (Mavice) Hubbell of Columbia and Charles (Dorothy) Hubbell of Southport; nieces, Teresa (Terry) Estis and Carol Clay of Columbia; nephews, Michael (Evonne) Hubbell of Oklahoma, Gary Anderson of Columbia, Jerry (Janet) Hubbell of Southport, and Terry Anderson of Columbia; several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Burkeen and a brother, Anderson Hubbell. Active pallbearers are Jerry Hubbell, Jason Hubbell, Clayton Estis, Gary Anderson, Braxton Wood, and Gregg Wood. Members of Bethel Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
