Thomas Michael Long, 85, died Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Poplar Estates in Columbia, Tennessee, where he had recently made his home after moving from Dixon, Illinois, where he had lived for many years.
He was born on November 17, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Lawrence Herman Long and Marie Rose Kennedy Long. Thomas was a retired civil construction worker with Local 727 Union in Dixon, Illinois. Before beginning his career in construction, he worked as a butcher for 10 to 15 years.
Thomas was a lifetime member of Dixon Elks Lodge 779, where he especially enjoyed spending time at the lodge campground and socializing with fellow members. He was a member of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his children, Thomas Long, Jr., of Rockford, Illinois, Ann Crew (Tray) of Hohenwald, Tennessee, and Timothy J. Long (Tori) of Winslow, Illinois; three grandsons, Michael Vincent Crews (Eva), James Robert Crews (Laura), and Andy Long; granddaughter, Addison Long; and two great-grandsons, Coyote Riot Crews and Leif Wilder Crews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Collette Long; two brothers, Larry Long and Jim Long; and sister, Mary Ann Meyer.
