View Video TributeMr. Tommie Ray Yocom, 71, resident of Mobley Ridge Road in Duck River, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Dr. Dwain Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Reese's Chapel Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Harold Bertis Yocom, Sr. and Martha Louise Wilburn Yocom. On July 14, 1972 he married Janie Ruth Chapman Yocom who preceded him in death May 20, 2008. He later married Linda Gail Nichols Yocom of Duck River who survives. Mr. Yocom served in the U.S. Army and was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the Army he joined the National Guard. Mr. Yocom was retired from Union Carbide Corp. He loved his family, farming and was an avid gun collector. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Michael David (Tammy) Adams of Columbia; grandchildren, John Michael Andrew Adams and Brianna Lynn Adams both of Columbia; great granddaughter, Paisley Grace Adams; step-daughter, Amy (David) Harris of Columbia; step-sons, Brent McCain of Mt. Pleasant, Brad McCain of Columbia; step-grandchildren, Abbey Harris, Allison Harris, Savannah McCain, Courtney McCain, Seth McCain, Cameron McCain; sisters, Carolyn (Jerry) Lynch, Pat (Larry) Richardson both of Petersburg; brother, Harold B. Yocom, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Johnny Mack Yocom. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Sheriff Enoch George, James Patterson and R.P. Williams Company employees.
