View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Ulna Eugene "Gene" Fitzgerald, Jr., 70, retired Ironworker and resident of Williamsport Pike, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving wife and family. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Ricky Clay and Joe Duvall officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Cemetery with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Claude Ulna Fitzgerald and Blanche Holt Fitzgerald and a 1958 graduate of Columbia Central High School. A 50 year member of Ironworkers Local 492, he also worked for several years at AVCO in Nashville and served in the Tennessee National Guard for 7 years. He was a former member of Pleasant Grove Masonic Lodge #138 in Culleoka, LaFayette Chapter #4 in Columbia and Al Menah Shrine Temple in Nashville. He was a member of Water Valley Church of Christ. Since his retirement, he loved tending his garden, hunting, and riding in his Corvair with his beloved wife. In addition to his home on Williamsport Pike, he enjoyed spending time at the family camp at Cypress Creek on the Tennessee River. The long list of family and friends who constantly visited him at the camp added greatly to this special part of his life. Whether you came by to go fishing, take a ride on the river, or trade a boat or trailer, he loved every minute spent there. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ann Tomlin Fitzgerald of Williamsport; daughter, Dawn (Brent) LeMay of Columbia; son, David Eugene Fitzgerald of Williamsport; granddaughter, Destini Blanche Fitzgerald (Carl) Gonyon of Columbia; grandson, Dustin Blake Fitzgerald of Williamsport; sister, Patricia (J. W.) Hargrove of Knob Creek; brother, Claude Anthony Fitzgerald of Williamsport; several nieces and nephews; and loving pets, Lucky and Molly. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Anthony Fitzgerald; and daughter-in-law, Leslie Karen "Sissy" Slaughter Fitzgerald. Active pallbearers are Joey Hargrove, Ricky Huckaby, Billy Ray Huckaby, John Tomlin, James Tomlin, and Christopher Mayberry. Honorary pallbearers include Wayne Tomlin, Mark Huckaby, Junior Tomlin, members of Ironworkers Local 492, members of Water Valley Church of Christ, and life-long friends. The family expresses deep appreciation to Drs. Choksi, Kanth, Rezk, Clayton, and Quinn and the CCU Nursing Staff, Oncology Nursing, and Caris Hospice for their care and concern during his illness.
