View Funeral Webcast Una Farris Ring, 94, retired Maury County teacher, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at her residence on Highway 431 in the Pottsville Community. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Russ Adcox and Clyde Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Ring Cemetery on her family farm. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born and reared in the Pottsville-Rally Hill Community in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Kelley Farris, Sr. and Lillie Crawford Farris. She married John Henry Ring August 7, 1937 and their forty-eight year marriage ended with his death August 4, 1986. She was a 1937 graduate of Columbia Central High School and earned a B.S. Degree in Education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1967. Her teaching career spanned thirty-seven years. During this time, Mrs. Ring taught first and second grades in the Maury County School System in Pottsville, Rally Hill, and Spring Hill schools until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Maury County Retired Teachers' Association. She was a long-time, faithful member of Old Lasea Church of Christ and taught Sunday School for many years. She was still teaching classes one Sunday a month until recently. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John Farris and Laura Martin Ring of Pottsville; step-grandson, John Gibbons of Pottsville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Lang and brothers, Kenny Farris, Bill Farris, and Kelley Farris, Jr. Active pallbearers are Charles Lang, Jr., John Lang, Ray Ring, Frank Bradford, Phil Lovell, Johnny Woodside, Jim Heman, and Peter Rogers. Honorary pallbearers include the 1937 class of Columbia Central High School, men of Old Lasea Church of Christ, Clyde Farmer, Steve Harris, and John Gibbons. The family expresses deep appreciation to her devoted care-giver, Jane White and the staff of Hospice Compassus for their kindness and care during her illness.
