View Video Tribute Velma Ruth Chunn Brown, 82, resident of Gray Circle, died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Robinson, John Vaughan, and Andrew Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of condolence may be extended at oakesandnichols.com The Cheatham County native was the daughter of the late Chester Chunn and Louise Rainey Chunn Rollins. The Chunn family moved to the Spring Hill Community when she was five years old and to Columbia while she was in 7th grade. Mrs. Brown worked for South Central Bell Telephone Company and later for E. I. DuPont Corporation for several years. She was a faithful member of Graymere Church of Christ since 1969 and taught Tuesday-Thursday School at Graymere where she was affectionately known as "Miss Roof." Survivors include her husband, Thomas Richard Brown, whom she married March 12, 1955; children, Latisha Marie Brown and Thomas Richard "Rickey" Brown, Jr.; grandchildren, Casey Brown, T. J. Cane, Johnathon Cane; great-granddaughter, Adalyn Cane; sister, Billie (Wendell) Cooper of Bonita Springs, Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings, Winfrey Chunn, Chester Odell Chunn, Francis Augusta Andrews, and Dorothy Mae "Dot" Long. Active pallbearers are Jeff Knox, Charles "Boots" Gossage, Jerry Kennedy, Bobby Grimmitt, Allen Elias, Terry Nevette, Dr. Vance Hendrickson, and Eddie Baker. Honorary pallbearers include, Dave Dotson, Christy Dotson Strand, Gladys Blue, Thelma Fleming, Wendell Robinson Sunday School Class, Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group, past and current Tuesday-Thursday School Teachers, CHS Class of 1952, and NHC Hillview Staff, nurses, and techicians.
