View Funeral WebcastMrs. Vera Mae Booker Ladd Baker, 89, former longtime resident of Culleoka, died Monday, May 31, 2010 at Alterra Sterling House. Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Tim McHenry officiating. The family will visit with friends after 4:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The daughter of the late Jay R. B. Booker and Eva Warf Booker, Mrs. Baker was born in Hickman County and reared in the Water Valley Community. She was first married to Roy Lindell Ladd, Sr. who preceded her in death on March 5, 1983. Mrs. Baker was employed as inspector for E. I. DuPont Chemical Company and after her retirement, she was a saleslady at Diamond World, Burt's Dress Shop and Kay's Dress Shop. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting. Mrs. Baker also enjoyed fishing and camping. She was a member of Culleoka Church of Christ and loved attending gospel singings. Survivors include her husband, Dickson Baker of Culleoka; two sons, Roy "Pete" (Betty) Ladd, Jr., of Chapel Hill; Greg (Susie) Ladd of Santa Fe; one stepson, Milton Baker of Franklin; four grandchildren, Erica Cervantes, Jason (Kimberly) Ladd, Andy Ladd, Brian Ladd; four great grandchildren, Christian Cervantes, Emily Cervantes, Briarlit Ladd, Gunner Ladd; and four step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Meeks Booker and Paul Booker; one sister, Ruth Booker, and one stepson, Larry Baker. Pallbearers will be Roy "Pete" Ladd, Jr., Greg Ladd, Milton Baker, Andy Ladd, Brian Ladd, and Jason Ladd. Honorary pallbearers will be staff of Alterra Sterling House and members of Culleoka Church of Christ.
