Vera Marlin Gidcomb

View Funeral Webcast Vera Marlin Gidcomb, 93, retired registered nurse at Maury Regional Medical Center and long-time resident of Daleview Circle,died Friday, September 9, 2011 at NHC Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. David McGregor officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12:00 noon to service time at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Jesse Lee Marlin and Helen Potts Marlin and earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Columbia State Community College. In her retirement years, Mrs. Gidcomb enjoyed and combined a number of interests including oil painting, needle point, crocheting, and antiquing. She was also an excellent checker player. Mrs. Gidcomb was a long-time member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was married August 3, 1940 to Walter Thomas Gidcomb, Jr. who preceded her in death March 4, 2004. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Gale Gidcomb of Columbia; sister, Bertha Marlin Ball of Thompson's Station; nieces, Carol (Mike) Wilson of Bradyville, Dian (Will Johnson) Parsley of Pensacola, Florida, and Claudette Reed of Thompson's Station; special friend, Gloria West Witherow of Smyrna; several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Marlin Parsley and Adell Marlin, an infant; and brother, R. J. Marlin. David Reed, Matthew Reed, Chris Kauffman, Steven Blanton, Mike Wilson, Will Johnson, and Buddy Witherow will serve as pallbearers.
