View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Virginia Stofel Wright Crowson, 96, well-known owner operator of Wright's Beauty Shop for sixty-five years on Highland Avenue, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with David Stofel officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late James Wesley Stofel and Pearl Amelia Daimwood Stofel. She was a graduate of Dye's Studio School of Cosmetology and owned and continuously operated Wright's Beauty Shop from 1945 to 2010. During World War II, to aid the war effort, she operated a forklift at Monsanto Company and was a supervisor for Washington Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Crowson was a charter member of West End Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.Her husband, Robert Crowson, died August 8, 1979. Survivors include her son, Douglas Lee (Carleton McNaron) Wright, Sr. of Columbia; grandchildren, Virginia Wright "Ginger" (Peter) Moon of Columbia, Douglas Lee (Stacy Church) Wright, Jr. of Columbia, Theresa Wright (Kevin) Brown of Franklin, Leonard Allen (Elizabeth Lane) Wright of Franklin, and Christopher Ernest Wright of Key Largo, Florida; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Linda Stofel Hendley of Columbia; nephews, Charles Stofel, James Lawrence Stofel of Columbia, and Dwight Steven Stofel of Paris. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Darren Miller Wright. Active pallbearers include Charles Stofel, Dwight Stofel, Peter Moon, Kevin Brown, Wesley Bryant, and Nick Moore. The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will serve as honorary pallbearers.
