Virginia Johnson "Gigi" Gibson

Virginia Faucette "Gigi" Johnson Gibson, 83, long-time resident of Tindell Lane, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Richard Zalesak officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. in St. Peter's Parish Hall. A private burial will take place later in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Columbia Academy, 1101 West 7th St., Columbia, Tennessee, 38401 or St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 311 West 7th St., Columbia, Tennessee, 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Howard Furley Johnson, Sr. and Virginia Faucette Johnson. She was a 1946 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for two years. On December 24, 1948 she married Elbert Leroy Gibson who preceded her in death November 26, 2005. She and her husband were owners/operators of Gibson Oil Company. Mrs. Gibson was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a former member of the Altar Guild. She took special pleasure in decorating the church for Christmas and Easter services and she loved going to the beach and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Kay (Samuel Hardy "Tripp", III) Duerson of Lynchburg, Virginia; son, Paul Leroy (Cynthia) Gibson of Columbia; grandchildren, Virginia Tyler Duerson, Sarah Gordon Duerson both of Lynchburg, VA; Brandon Paul Gibson, Charles Leroy (Mary Elizabeth) Gibson, Jeffrey Lane Gibson all of Columbia; and two great grandchildren, Noah Paul Gibson and Elizabeth Skyler Gibson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Furley "Buzzy" Johnson, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Sue Malone, Judy and Randell Rummage, Patricia Hulen, Beverly and W.H. "Dub" Pigg, Tina and Billy McKennon, Robert Rummage, Randy Rummage, Carl Johnson, John Johnson, Joe Gibson, Rainey Gibson, Pat Gibson, Jeff Prestwich, Larry Petty, Gayle Owens, Sandra and Allen Gibson, Kay and Neal Gibson, Sandra and David Hardison, Susan Greene Garman, Cyndi Hedrick McNamee, Valerie Temes Stinnett, members of Central High Class of 1946, Communicants and Vestry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, employees of Maury County Veterinary Hospital, and employees of Life Care Center and The Bridge. Her children wish to express special thanks to the Staff at Life Care Center and The Bridge for their care during their mother's illness.
