View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Virginia Collier Sands, 89, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and member of her church, died Friday, November 12, 2010 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Curtis Dowdy and Glen Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and after 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Maury County native was reared in the Fountain Creek Community and daughter of the late Everett Collier and Lillian Watson Collier. Mrs. Sands was a faithful member of Highland Church of Christ since 1940. Retired bookkeeper for The Davis Shop, she was an excellent seamstressand was affectionately known as "Aunt Virginia." Her beloved husband, Ralph B. Sands, long-time Maury County law enforcement officer, died September 28, 1999.Survivors include her sons, Ralph B. "R.B." Sands, Jr. of Columbia and Raymond D. Sands of Chapel Hill; granddaughters, Latisha Sue Rosales of Columbia and Amanda (Andrew) Cromwell of New Lothrop, Michigan; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Alvin Collier, Jimmy Collier, and Leon Collier; and a great-grandchild, Maliea Brooke Brashears. Active pallbearers are Raymond Sands, R. B. Sands, Jr., Richie Seagraves, Brian Howell, Andrew Cromwell, Rodney Hunt, Steve Jones, Joey Allen, and Frank Varnado. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Ladies Bible Class at Highland Church of Christ and staff of Life Care of Columbia.
