Virginia Whitehead Shiver

View Funeral WebcastVirginia "Jennie" Whitehead Shiver, 85, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at her residence on Kedron Road. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Frank Shiver officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Daughter of the late Samuel H. Whitehead and Ida Shook Whitehead, she was born in Tishomingo, Mississippi. At the age of 2, she moved with her family and was reared in Lawrenceburg. Mrs. Shiver was a graduate of Lawrence County High School and excelled as an All-State Basketball player. She loved sewing, cooking and playing cards. She attended the Church of Christ for a number of years. Survivors include the love of her life, Jim Shiver of Columbia, whom she married April 22, 1964; daughter, Kay Winslette of Brentwood; grandchildren, Kimberly Faith (Alan) Edgar of Edwards, Colorado and Todd (Tonya) Winslette of Columbia; great-grandson, Taylor Winslette of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Mary Whitehead of Nashville and Aliene Whitehead of Shelbyville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Bob Venable; brothers, Fred Whitehead, Ray Whitehead, Clay Whitehead, Clyde Whitehead and sisters, Mae Whitehead, Mauveline Kent, Blanche Whitehead, Katherine James, Hazel Crabb, and JoAnn Ward. Pallbearers are Roger Kent, Ronnie Crabb, Doug Moore, Samuel Whitehead, Jerry Whitehead, and Steven Glover. Honorary pallbearers include Dot Anderson, Hilda and Pockets Curtsinger, Christy and Earl McKee, Joanne McKee, and Tandy Fox.
