Mr. W.D. Dawson, 71, electrician and owner of Dawson Electric, died Monday, November 2, 2009 at his residence on Green Acres Drive. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Kelsie Earl Dawson, Sr. and Martha W. Dawson. He was a 1956 graduate of Hampshire High School and served in the United States Navy onboard the U.S.S. Conway. He taught electricity at Hohenwald Trade School and worked for Frakes Electric before starting his own company. Mr. Dawson was a member of Fruit of the Vine. He loved gardening and the outdoors. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his very devoted love, Debbie Peterson of Columbia; daughter, Brenda (James) Germann of Columbia; three sons, David Dawson of Murfreesboro, Mike (Pam) Dawson of Columbia, Mark (Sherry) Dawson of Santa Fe; sister, Marie (Ray) Odom of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Dawson, Brittany Dawson, Ashley Dawson, Shelby Dawson, Dakota Dawson, Kayla Paschall, Caitlin Peterson; one great-grandchild, Austin Ryan Grooms; nephew, Steve (Carol) Odom; extended family Jimmy Peterson and Josh Peterson both of Columbia and the mothers of his children, Joyce Dawson and Mattie Spires Adams; and his beloved lab, Sue. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Dawson, Jr. Pallbearers will be Donnie Joe Cothron, Don Osborne, Preacher Thompson, Sonny McNeely, Carl Wilkinson, Porter Alexander, Tommy Elliott and Justin Chapin. Honorary pallbearers will be close friends and customers.
