Walter Cosby, 83, retired from General Motors in Detroit and resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Mark Proctor and Wilson Henderson officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 following the service. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place Saturday in Burch Cemetery in New Tazewell, Tennessee. A native of Harrogate, Tennessee he was the son of the late Robin and Rebecca Cosby. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Cosby was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. He loved reading his Bible and singing with the Super Senior Singers. Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Mildred Rosenbalm Cosby of Columbia; a daughter, Deborah (Jeffrey) Sears of Spring Hill; brother, Arch (Hazel) Cosby of Monroe, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Aaron Sears and Rachel Sears both of Spring Hill.
