Walter A. Dycus, 77, retired employee of Union Carbide and farmer in the Santa Fe Community, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Williamson Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Davidson and Hueston Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Leslie Walker Dycus, Sr. and Emily Booskie Dycus. A member of Cathey's Creek Church of Christ, Mr. Dycus served as song leader and was frequently asked to direct singing at Gospel meetings in surrounding churches. Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Peggy Church Dycus of the Santa Fe Community; daughters, Dianne (Dee) Gordon of Hampshire; Emily Dodson (fiancé Tommy Mayberry) of Columbia; granddaughters, Kim (Robby) Curry of Kettle Mills; Stacey Dodson of Santa Fe; Kristin Dodson of Sevierville; Ashley (Kerby) Slaughter of Soddy Daisy; Amber Gordon of Hampshire; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother, Leslie Dycus, Jr. and sister, Judith Elaine Stewart. Active pallbearers will be Robert Dycus, Neil Delk, Bobby Anderson, Doug Garner, Bobby Grimmett, Everett Grimmett, and Jason Delk. Honorary pallbearers include Jeff Foster, Paul Dugger, Jimmy Sowell, Chris Rochester, and congregation of Cathey's Creek Church of Christ. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ruth Lamar, Williamson Medical Center Oncology Nurses, and Dr. John Maloof.
