Mr. Wayne Garner, 70, resident of Hampshire Pike, died Friday, August 9, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Jackson Heights Church of Christ with Andrew Roberts and Dr. Rufus Clifford officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late George Garner and Alice Holden Garner. He was a 1960 graduate of Hampshire High School where he played basketball and baseball. On July 27, 1961 he married Linda Jones Garner of Columbia who survives. Mr. Garner was employed at Ted's Sporting Goods in downtown Columbia for fifty years and became a partner in the business. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a wonderful father and husband. He was a member of Jackson Heights Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon. In addition to his wife survivors include sons, Christopher (Cindy) Garner, Sr. and Shane Garner both of Columbia; grandchildren, Christopher Garner, Jr., Whitney Garner, Pvt. Patrick Garner, Austin Garner, Chance Garner, Chase Garner, Madison Garner; brother, John (Judi) Garner of Jackson; and nephew, David (Missy) Garner. Active pallbearers will be Christopher Garner, Pvt. Patrick Garner, Austin Garner, Chance Garner, Chase Garner and David Garner. Honorary pallbearers include past and present employees of Ted's Sporting Goods and Elders and Deacons of Jackson Heights Church of Christ.
