View Video Tribute Wesley Ronald Combs, 75, mechanical design engineer, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at his residence in the Hampshire Community in Lewis County. A Celebration of his life will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Gary Wedgewood officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Franklin. The family will visit with friends Thursday, August 30th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Friday, August 31st from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Born in the Old Hickory area of Davidson County, he was the son of the late Wesley Sharber Combs and Josephine Elizabeth Goode Combs and a graduate of DuPont High School in 1954. He married the former Diana Lee Parker on November 5, 1983. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, served as an usher, and was active in numerous activities of the church. Mr. Combs was also a member of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce. A problem solver and experienced team player, Mr. Combs' chosen career as a senior mechanical design engineer was spent serving several companies including Mesa Associates, Inc. in Knoxville, Alpha Integration, Inc. in Murfreesboro, RTS Wright Industries in Nashville, E. I. DuPont in Old Hickory, and Mechanical Design Service, and had his own mechanical design business in Hampshire. During his career he developed, designed, and created assembly drawings for a heavy-duty continuous operating conveyor; designed numerous assembly machine stations in the automotive, computer, ink jet cartridge, medical, and military fields. Mr. Combs also dealt in customer relations and management and was nationally recognized for his outstanding design work by a major automotive manufacturer. Survivors include his wife, Diana Parker Combs of Hampshire; daughter, Connie Rene' Combs Skelton of Waynesboro; sons, Ronald "Alan" (Kathy) Combs of Smyrna and Anthony D. "Tony" (Shelly) Combs of Mt. Juliet; sister, Marian (Marshall) Brown of Tullahoma; grandchildren, Daniel Skelton, Travis Skelton, Chris Combs, Jenny Combs, Annie Beth Combs, Chelsea Boike, and Haley Adelmann; Diana's children, Michelle (Michael) Jovanovic of Medford, Oregon, Vicki Lee (Jeff) Morgan of Spring Hill, and Jennifer Anne Chambers of Eagle Point, Oregon; and her grandchildren, Philip Jovanovic, Grace Jovanovic, Nathan Morgan, Joshua Morgan, and Alexandra Chambers. Pallbearers are Jeff Morgan, Daniel Skelton, Tony Combs, Travis Skelton, Alan Combs, Michael Jovanovic, Philip Jovanovic, and Chris Combs.
