William Garnell "Bill" Bates, 80, retired from Union Carbide and resident of Naydonlin Drive, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Andrew Roberts and Bradley Dugger officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. On August 20, 1976 he married Norma Sue Luttrell Bates of Columbia who survives him. Mr. Bates was a retired millwright and member of Union of Operating Engineers Local 912. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and working in his yard. He was a member of Jackson Heights Church of Christ. Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Lisa Gail (Tony) Gowan of Charlotte, North Carolina, Katherine Faye (Doug) Prince of Louisville, Tennessee; one son, Keith Allen (Christi) Logue of Thompson's Station; brother, Paul J. (Louise) Bates of Lawrenceburg; two sisters-in-law, Velma Bates of Lawrenceburg, Carol (Theron) Park of Hendersonville; mother-in-law, Wilma Luttrell of Hendersonville; fourteen grandchildren, CJ Logue, Shawn Logue, Tanner Logue, Emily Logue, Lillie Logue, Christopher Scales, Tony Scales, Marcus Scales all of Thompson's Station, Ryan Fisher, Ashlyn Fisher, Job Dellinger all of Charlotte, North Carolina; Will Prince, Meagan Prince, Allen Prince all of Louisville, TN; great-grandchild, Remington Logue; beloved family members, Bonnie Logue and Bobby and Shirley Fox; and his beloved dogs, Queen and Presley. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Bates and Bob Bates and two sisters, Pauline Crews and Kathlene Boykin. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Jason Bartlett, Bill Hambek, Bobby Fox, and elders and deacons of Jackson Heights Church of Christ.
