William B "Hop" Dorris Jr

Mr. William Buford "Hop" Dorris, Jr., 87, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at his residence on Trotwood Avenue. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Judge Bobby Sands officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 12:00 noon until time of service at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late William Buford Dorris, Sr. and the late Janie Napier Dorris Cayce. He was married to Nancy Sue Ammerman Dorris who preceded him in death July 18, 2006. Mr. Dorris was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy and attended Vanderbilt University where he played football. He owned and operated Hop's Café & Shamrock Pool Room, was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 686 and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by cousins, J.B. (Shirley) Napier, Martha Bryant both of Columbia, Bill Napier of Mississippi, Beth (Jerry) Lindsey of South Carolina; nephews, Joe B. Thomas of New Jersey, Frank C. "Cliff" Thomas of Knoxville; great nieces and nephew, Zilphia Thomas Jernigan, David Thomas, Jennifer Thomas Godfrey; and caregivers, Anna, Thelma, Tracy, Brandy, Sara and Kim. He was preceded in death by a son, James Hubert "Jimmy" Dorris, sister, Mary Jane Dorris Thomas, and several cousins including, Katherine Spruill and Mary Agnes Berry. Pallbearers will be Tim Napier, Stan Napier, Steve Napier, Harry Mack Bryant, John Bryant, Billy Napier, Ron Miller, Scott Bryant, Tom Gordon and Will Gordon.
