View Funeral Webcast William C. Floyd, Jr., 87, resident of Wheeler Field Road in Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and member of the VFW. Mr. Floyd was a member of Porter's Chapel Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter Sharon Gay Floyd of Columbia; four sons William Allen (Darlene) Floyd of Horn Lake, Mississippi, Jimmy Lynn (Brenda) Floyd of Mt. Pleasant and Phillip Wayne (Penny) Floyd of Columbia, Richard Clarence Floyd of Smyrna; four step-children; three brothers Ray (Thelma) Floyd of Mt. Pleasant, Bobby (Joyce) Floyd of Santa Fe, David (Gwen) Floyd of Sumter, South Carolina; one sister Jackie (Jack) Zenik of Florence, Alabama; seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Berry Floyd; a granddaughter Bridgett Renee Floyd, three sisters, Betty Buchanan Bassham, Elizabeth Dugger Lynn, Sarah Gail Floyd and two brothers Preston Floyd and Jim Floyd. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
