View Video TributeView Funeral WebcastWilliam Ray Jernigan, 62, retired accountant, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at his residence in Murfreesboro. The family will visit with friends Friday at Oakes & Nichols at 9:00 a.m. concluding with funeral services at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ronnie Pittinger officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Rutherford County, he was reared in the Santa Fe Community and was the son of the late Otis Sewell Jernigan and Ruth Woody Jernigan. A 1966 graduate of Santa Fe High School, he served as the 1st president of the Student Government Association at Columbia State Community College where he earned an Associate Degree and later graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He served in the U. S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, attained the rank of Sergeant, was a highly rated marksman, and did a tour of duty in Viet Nam. Survivors include his children, Phillip (Mary) Jernigan of Murfreesboro, Julie Jernigan of Franklin, Kentucky, and Jennifer (James) Morgan of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Caroline Morgan, Lorelei Jernigan, Anthony Morgan, and Lola Jernigan; sister, Peggy (Tom) Harmon of Columbia; brother, Jackie (Mary Elizabeth) Jernigan of Columbia; nephew, Cody Jernigan; and several cousins. Pallbearers are Jackie Jernigan, Tom Harmon, Wilford Potts, Michael Kendrick, and Joe Frank Jernigan.
