William Odell Thurman, 90, retired from Jersey Pride Creamery and former long-time resident of North James Campbell Boulevard, died Friday, June 18, 2010 at Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Jeremy Butt and Todd Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Gibsonville Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Army during World War II from 1942-1943. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22, Blinded Veterans Association, and American Legion.Mr. Thurman was a member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ.He was married January 11, 1942 to Doris Trice Thurman who preceded him in death July 29, 2005.Survivors include special caregivers, Shirley (John) Daniels and Laverna Woodard of Columbia; nieces, Martha Lou Estes and Elizabeth Hubbell of Columbia and nephews, Mifford (Mavis) Hubbell of Columbia and Charles (Dorothy) Hubbell of Giles County.Active pallbearers are Robert Daniels, Bobby Daniels, Johnny Daniels, Douglas Woodard, Crafton Woodward, Randal Woodard, Zackary Daniels, Preston Holland, and Ronnie Staggs.
