View Funeral WebcastWilliam Edward "Slick" Pitts, 81, employee of Ted Brown Tile Company for 35 years and retired from the maintenance department of First Farmers & Merchants Bank, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at the home of his daughter. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late William Hershel Pitts and Ailene Collier Pitts. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include daughters, Pamela McCandless of Columbia and Darlene Tate of Panama City, Florida; granddaughter, Amy (Steve) Mangrum; grandsons, Justin Tate, Jordan Tate, Jacob Tate, Adam Yarbrough, and Aaron Yarbrough; great-grandchildren, Noah Mangrum and Abby Mangrum; sisters, Carolyn (Jim) Kennedy and Martha Jean (Lloyd) McHenry; close friend, Ree Overstreet; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Margie Nell Inman Pitts, March 31, 1996 and brothers, Robert Pitts and Vance Pitts. Active pallbearers are Justin Tate, Jordan Tate, Aaron Yarbrough, Revis Harris, Mike Sandrell, Rusty Baker, Isom Pillow, and Mack McHenry. Honorary pallbearers include Buddy Yarbrough, employees of First Farmers & Merchants Bank, and members of Highland Church of Christ.
