William Edward “Bill” Sanders, 68, retired Environmentalist for Smelter in Mt. Pleasant, and resident of Hampshire, died Friday, July 18, 2025 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 21, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Maury County Animal Shelter, 1233 Mapleash Ave, Columbia, TN 38401. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born July 4, 1957 in Columbia, TN, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Sanders and the late Carrie Viola Sanders. On July 11, 1980 he married Tammy Scott. Bill was an avid outdoors man, enjoying golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, and going to the river. He loved going to the farmers market, but above all, he was a loving husband and father.

In addition to his wife, Tammy Scott Sanders, he is survived by his son, Bryan (Jenna) Sanders; grandchildren, Tru Sanders, Theodore Sanders, and Isaiah Sanders; sisters, Ruth Davis, Shirley Parton, Melba Lee, Carolyn (Tommy Wayne) Anderson, and Debra (Ricky) Lyons; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great –nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Ragsdale.

Active pallbearers will be Wes Lyons, Troy Anderson, Adam Anderson, Timothy Lee, Freddie Voss, and Ricky Lyons. Honorary pallbearers will include Richard Wilkes, Rusty Ring, and the past and present employees of Smelter.
