View Funeral WebcastWilliam O. "Bill' Taylor, 89, retired jeweler and watchmaker and resident of North Hardin Drive, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at VA Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jackie White officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Marshall County native was the son of the late Grady Taylor and Addie Lunn Taylor. Mr. Taylor served as Sheriff of Marshall County from 1957 - 1960. After his term as sheriff, he relocated to Columbia and operated W. O. Taylor Jewelry for several years. He enjoyed woodworking, especially building clocks, tables and birdhouses. He also enjoyed working with stained glass. Mr. Taylor served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a sixty-eight year member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He was a member of Berlin United Methodist Church in Lewisburg. Survivors include his wife, Alice Ruth Jones Taylor of Columbia; daughter, Patsy (Houston) McCandless of Franklin; son, Larry (Connie) Taylor of Brentwood; sister, Louise (James) Whitsett of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Brian (Kendall) McCandless, Heather (J. D.) Ryan, Christopher Taylor; and great grandchild, Jacob Ryan. Pallbearers will be Keith Martin, Robert McClure, Alfred Haislip, Bill Martin, Paul McClure, Brian McCandless, Bob Taylor, Frankie Taylor, Gary Taylor, and J. D. Ryan.
