View Video Tribute Winona Ann Smith Grant, 88, long-time resident of Crestland Drive, died Friday, August 7, 2015 at Azalea Court Assisted Living in Smyrna. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Tommy Vann and Rev. Chip Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 222 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401, Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203 or American Cancer Society, P. O. Born and reared in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Goodman "Dutch" Smith and Ernestine Timmons Smith. She was a 1945 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Columbia Business College. She married James Bruce "J.B." Grant on July 24, 1949. Their 62 year marriage ended with his death October 24, 2011. Mr. Grant was an active member of the Columbia Jaycees and Chairman of the Maury County Fair Board for a number of years. As a member of the Columbia Jaycettes, she worked closely with her husband at the Fair and in other community and civic activities they supported. Mrs. Grant was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and growing roses. An excellent homemaker, she loved cooking, knitting, and sewing. She loved everything about Christmas; making stockings for every family member and decorating the whole house. An avid reader, her favorite book and movie was "Gone With The Wind." Survivors include her sister, Dolores Smith Connell Love of Columbia; nieces, Judy Connell (Kenny) McLeod of Henderson and Sandra Connell (Noel) Jones of Smyrna; great-nieces, Kimberly McLeod (Josh) Vires of Houston, Texas, Natalie Jones and Sarah Jones of Smyrna; great-nephew, Jared (Michelle) McLeod of Swartz Creek, Michigan; great-great-nephew, Connor McLeod of Swartz Creek, Michigan; great-great-niece, Baileigh Vires of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Smith. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Jim Cook, Dr. Caleb Wallwork, Dr. Michael Calloway, Ernest Baker, former members of the Columbia Jaycees and Maury County Fair Board.
