During World War II, she was employed at Dixie Manufacturing Company and later for more than 20 years at Mrs. Minnie Ruth Andrews' Nursery School. She also would baby-sit children in her family as well as others. Mrs. Westmoreland loved the Lord and her family and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed flower gardening, was an avid doll collector, and especially loved tomatoes. Her son, David, grew many tomato plants to keep her in good supply. She attributed her long life to the love of chocolate, fried catfish, and country ham. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ since 1953 and previously worshipped at West 7th Street Church of Christ. She was married December 11, 1937 to Joe Westmoreland who preceded her in death February 4, 1979. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Jane (Jimmy) Derryberry of Hampshire, Mary Jo Abanatha of Richmond, Kentucky, and Brenda Gail (Jerry) Brown of Collierville; sons, David L. (Paula) Westmoreland of Columbia and Don (Jean) Westmoreland of Culleoka; daughters-in-law, Brenda Westmoreland (also a special caregiver) and Juanita Westmoreland, both of Columbia; sister, Daisy (Jack) White of Columbia; brother, Knox (Marilyn) McCollum of Signal Mountain; grandchildren, Joey Westmoreland, Rhonda Delk, Delana White, Chad Westmoreland, Stephanie Durham, Callie Wilkins, and Justin Brown; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Westmoreland; grandchildren, Kent Westmoreland, Greg Cunningham, and Brent Westmoreland; 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Active pallbearers are Joey Westmoreland, Mark Delk, Chad Westmoreland, Justin Brown, Jamie Hubbell, Larry Nicholson, Jackie White, Johnny White, and Ken Lee. Honorary pallbearers include Elders and Deacons of Highland Church of Christ, former students at Mrs. Andrews' Nursery School; nieces; nephews; and neighbors.
