View Video TributeMr. Billy Blaine "Skeeter" Allen, 52, resident of Scott Hollow Road, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Proctor and Rev. Rick Bilyeu officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Pampa, Texas, he was the son of Billye Dean Reading Allen of Lynnville and the late Aubery Earl "Cowboy" Allen. On July 11, 1997 he married Betty Jane Chumbley Allen who preceded him in death January 21, 2013. He loved his late wife and missed her every day. Billy served in the United States Marine Corps for twelve years including a tour of duty in the Middle East during Desert Storm. He was a highly decorated Marine who earned the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Letter of Appreciation, Meritorious Mast, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal Certificate of Commendation, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Marksman Badge. He was formerly employed as an EMT in Nashville and currently worked for the City of Columbia Sanitation Department. He loved his pet dachshunds, Razzie, Roscoe and Princess and will be greatly missed by them. Billy was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his mother include his daughter, Tackonia (Victor) Smith of Newbern, North Carolina; brother, John Nugent (Jordan) Allen of Petersburg; sister, Tonya Allen (Darryl) Brown of Fayetteville; grandson, Caden Smith of Newbern, North Carolina; special friend, Carol Brooks of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Jade Woodard, Jeremy Jones, Jordon Jones, Jason Kratz, Justin Kratz, Aubery Savannah "Savvy" Allen, Clay Allen, Bowie Isabella Allen; several great nieces and nephews, and his best friend who he served with in the Marine Corps, Claude "Doug" Maynard. Active pallbearers include John Nugent Allen, Darryl Brown, Jeremy Jones, Jordan Jones, Justin Kratz and Doug Maynard. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the City of Columbia Sanitation Department.
