David Everett Aldridge, 80, retired plant manager of Columbia Slag and resident of Aster Drive, died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Dr. Carl Duck officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. A native of Fayette County, Alabama, he was the son of the late David Emanuel Aldridge and Essie Lee Hawkins Aldridge. He was educated in Alabama schools and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Alabama. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy and was a graduate of the Naval Bureau of Medicne and Surgery in San Diego, California. Following the war, he came to Columbia with Columbia Slag and was plant manager until his retirement. Active in civic and community affairs, Mr. Aldridge served on the Columbia Zoning Board for several years, was a member and served as president of the Columbia Lions Club, and was a member of the Columbia Elks Lodge. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and served on the flag-folding detail for several years. He was a charter member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Louise Johnson Aldridge of Columbia; a step-daughter, Peggy (Charlie) Hardaway of Nashville; step-grandchildren, Wendy (Brad) Fisher of Columbia and Kelly (Judy) Hardaway of Centerville; step-great-grandchildren, Jessica Fisher, Riley Fisher, Kyle Douglas, Elizabeth Hardaway, and Amy Douglas; sisters, Thelma Madison of Fayette, Alabama, Evanell Alexander of Alabaster, Alabama, and Christine (J. C.) Palmer of Alabaster, Alabama; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ailene Kirby and Ederel Cory and brothers, Herman Aldridge and Coy Aldridge. Active pallbearers are J. C. Palmer, Larry Palmer, Kris Palmer, Ryan Palmer, Gerald Aldridge, Calvin Mattison, Riley Fisher, Kelly Hardaway, Brad Fisher, Justin Palmer, and David Alexander. Honorary pallbearers include The Shoppe Gang, Dr. John Simmons, R. P. Williams, Rip Collins, Bill Taylor, Shane Oliver, Joe Ford, Bill Chaffin, Walter Hurt, and Tom Hollinsworth.
