View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Hilda Ward Stanley, 97, retired from Columbia Area Mental Health and resident of 4th Avenue, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Roger Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 801 South High Street, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Mobile, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late William Moses Ward and Maude Anna Crane Ward. She attended the University of Georgia in Athens in 1931 and was a 1931 graduate of Southern Business University in Atlanta.From 1935-1943, she was Employment Interviewer for the Tennessee State Department of Employment Security. From 1945-1972, she was Office Manager for Stanley Televison Service. Later, she continued her education at Columbia State Community College where she pursued a degree in Accounting. She served as Accounts Receivable and General Ledger Clerk for Columbia Area Mental Health from 1978-1995 where she served as Receptionist from 1972-1978. Mrs. Stanley was a member of First Presbyterian Church, tutored elementary school students for several years; was past President and Treasurer of Columbia Business & Professional Women's Club, and when her children were active in Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America, she served as a Troop Leader and Den Mother for both organizations. She was married March 11, 1933 to William Elton Stanley who preceded her in death June 10, 1989. Survivors include two daughters, June (Phillip) Page and Edith (Ricky) Sanders of Columbia; a son, William W. "Bill" (Wylma) Stanley of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Lisa (Patrick) Harhan of Herndon, Virginia, Erin Sanders of Columbia, Wright Stanley of Raleigh, North Carolina, Bethany Stanley of Raleigh, North Carolina, Valerie (David) Hirsbrunner of Murfreesboro, Anna Page of Columbia, and David (Stephenie) Page of Hampshire; great-grandchildren, Rachel Harhan, Taylor Beasley, Kaleigh Lentz, Carson Cole, Jed Page, and Sadie Page. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
