Mr. Joe H. Parks, 77, real estate and tobacco auctioneer, livestock dealer, and longtime resident of Darks Mill Road, died Friday, September 30, 2005, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. Burial will be in Neapolis Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Monday after 10:00 A.M. at the church. Memorials may be made to Neapolis Cemetery Association, 403 Cheyenne Trail, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Norman A. Parks and Lura Lovell Parks. On August 9, 1947, he married Cloa Frakes Parks who preceded him in death on March 21, 2001. He was a 1946 graduate of Columbia Military Academy and the Reppert Auction School in Decatur, Indiana. He owned and operated the Columbia Tobacco Warehouse and Farmers Tobacco Warehouse in Valdosta, Georgia; and he auctioned tobacco for several years in Lumberton, North Carolina. Mr. Parks was a member of Neapolis United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Columbia Elks Lodge. Survivors include three sons, Houston (Suzanne) Parks, Steve (Rita) Parks, and Jim (Mary Jane) Parks, all of Columbia; five grandchildren, Alexander Parks, John Logan Parks, Preston Lee Parks, Steven Connor Parks, Elizabeth Foster Parks; one sister, Norma Parks Thomas of Columbia; and one brother, Robert S. (Judy) Parks of Columbia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry R. Parks. Pallbearers will be John O. Williams, Hunter Husband, Judge Robert Holloway, Santa Deas, James Jewell, John Jewell, III, Stuart "Butch" Schulz, and John Church. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of Columbia Tobacco Warehouse, Phillip Rogers, Norman Parks, Neel Frakes, Robert F. Fitzgerald, Herbert Fitzgerald, and Larry Myles.
