View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Nettie Kathryn Smith Sneed, 90, former resident of Campbellsville Pike, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Bethany Health and Rehab Center in Davidson County. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Dr. Dwain Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Rock Springs Cemetery, P. O. Born and reared in the Culleoka Community in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Oliver Smith and Kate Cooper Smith and a 1941 graduate of Chapel Hill High School. During World War II, she moved to Oak Ridge to work in the war effort. After the war, she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone and in 1983 retired from the Columbia Business Office at Bell South. January 17, 1952, she married James Mahlon Sneed. Their 47-year marriage ended with his death February 3, 1999. Mrs. Sneed was a former member of Highland Park Baptist Church and Rock Springs Baptist Church. Currently, she was a member of Judson Baptist Church and was actively involved with Judson's "Helping Hands." She loved gardening, especially raising irises, and birdwatching. Survivors include her son, Timothy Smith (Bonnie) Sneed of Nashville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Brown (Gene) Mefferd of Columbia, Timothy James (Christina) Brown of Florida, Alan Neelley Brown of Columbia, Samuel Harrison Sneed and Luke Mahlon Sneed, both of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Alexandria Mefferd, Olivia Brown, Alexander James Brown; son-in-law, Dr. Dwain Brown of Columbia; sister-in-law, Mildred (Leon) Walters of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Anne Sneed Brown; sister, Betty Anne Smith; brothers, Randall Oliver Smith, Elwyn Cooper Smith, and Homer Dean Smith. Serving as pallbearers are Samuel Sneed, Luke Sneed, Alan Brown, Gene Mefferd, Mike Walters, and Buster Walters.
